Planting impatiens under forsythia shrub

Planting impatiens under forsythia shrub is a great idea as these flowers require shade ( no direct sunlight)
My tips:

  1. Water them everyday during hot days
  2. Best to plant in containers as they can be kept indoors during winter.
  3. Provide them liquid fertilizer 10-10-10 NPK every two weeks.
  4. Deadhead spent flowers
  5. Water them early in the morning as evening watering will invite slugs and snails.
  6. Layer with mulch to keep them moist and with egg shells to repel slugs and snails.

Dahlia with purple verbena

Care instructions:

  1. Dahlia should be fertilized with low or no nitrogen fertilizer.
  2. Water Dahlia everyday during summer as its soil should remain moist.
  3. Regularly deadhead spent flowers.
  4. Cut Dahlia stems from middle to promote good air circulation.
  5. Due to several issues, I recommend growing them in containers than on ground.

Verbena and dahlias are perennials if well taken care of in winter. They are sold as annuals in nurseries.

  1. Don't forget to water when they are dormant in winter. Once a month is usually enough.
  2. No fertilizer during dormancy.
  3. During snowfall, it's best to place the container under shade

An excellent idea for a perennial flower bed

An excellent idea for a perennial flower bed
Planted baby pink rose bush two years ago in March. Planted salvia and cordyline last year in Aug. Loving the pink and purple combo

Tips:
I feed Roses every week with 10-10-10 NPK fertilizer and regularly deadhead spent flowers.

I had mulched my plants in spring right after I pruned them. Unfortunately I could still see weed in the soil, Just recently I have put a sheet of plastic on a small portion of the bed and then put stones and mulch on top to hide it. The bed looks so nice. I am waiting for spring to cover my whole bed with the plastic sheet to have a zero weed bed. 😉
